Ethereal Form is one of various middle-grade Lesser Yuan Techniques owned by Blue Profound Sect's outer mountains.
Zhou Yuan wanted to find a movement-type yuan technique since Dragon Step was no longer efficient enough, so he went to the Hidden Scriptures House of Cangxuan Sect.
It was formally taught by Zhu Yue; however, due to the conflict between Zhu Feng - his younger brother - and Zhou Yuan, he refused to teach the latter and had many disputes with each other since then, especially when Zhou Yuan successfully 'stole' his instructor position for Ethereal Form.
Thanks to Decoder Saint Rune, Zhou Yuan could find apertures faster and better; moreover, his daily lesson was cheaper as Zhou Yuan took only 3 genesis jades while Zhu Yue took 5. In other words, Zhou Yuan's lessons were more effective and cheaper at the same time; so many converted themselves and even willing to pay more than the lesson was worth initially to be taught by Zhou Yuan because he limited the size of his class to 100 spots only.
In the end, he lost the privilege to do so after losing a formal match approved by the outer mountain manager, Chen Yuan (through bribery), and the outer mountain elder, Zong Ming (asked by Zhou Yuan to be the judge to ensure a fair battle).
Technique Description[]
The technique transforms the body akin to an illusion, making it difficult to discern what is real, and impossible to catch like the clouds. Not only does it bestow the ability to camouflage oneself but also neutralize a portion of the enemy's attacks. Overall, the Ethereal Form technique is a wonderful technique could pretty much cover every aspect of survivability, from defending to escaping and hiding. There are 3 stages/levels to this movement-type yuan technique:

Cultivation Method[]
The technique requires to unblock 108 apertures in the body, before pouring in the mist essence to temper them. At the advance stage, one will be able to turn their body ethereal like the mist and travel a thousand miles in an instant.
However, the slightly more troublesome part is that there are millions and millions of apertures in the body, and their locations are different for everyone. Only by gradually trying to feel them would one be able to unblock the 108 apertures. This is where Zhou Yuan has the most advantage as he possesses the Decoder Saint Rune to look for the apertures much faster and effective than normal many times.
After finding an aperture, the cultivator has to smoothen the aperture with their genesis qi, before infusing it with the mist essence. This smoothing method was the essence of the Ethereal Form. Only by using this procedure would the mist essence be able to fuse with the aperture later on.
Mist essence is formed from the agglomeration of genesis qi and the clouds when the sun and moon interchange. It is a rather bizarre but seemingly magical process. Zhou Yuan bought a bottle of mist essence with 2 pieces of genesis jades in the Glittering Jewels Pavillion.
