Therefore, he is resentful toward Zhou Yuan because the latter doesn't care a bit about this hidden rule in the outer mountains or listen to him to give up his first-class discipline quota. But when he faces a person who is stronger or has a higher status than him, he suddenly becomes humble and respectful like a coward.

Chen Yuan was a member of the Thunder Prison Peak. He was likely a Divine Dwelling yuan master because he could be in charge of new outer mountain disciplines and talked to Mu Wuji like an equal, and due to his personality, he wouldn't talk that care-freely with someone who is stronger and has more authority than him.
